Gary works with business owners, managers and sales professionals to help them grow their businesses so they earn more and work less.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about Gary, visit his website at\u00a0<a title=\"westernbusinesscoaching.com\" href=\"http:\/\/westernbusinesscoaching.com\/\">http:\/\/westernbusinesscoaching.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:2.4em;line-height:1.5em\">What a difference one letter can make<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I was composing an email recently and came to the part at the end where I was asking the person to do something.\u00a0 I was going to ask \u201cCould you please\u2026..\u201d?\u00a0 Instead, I decided to ask \u201cWould you please\u2026..\u201d?\u00a0 Now there\u2019s a subtle difference, isn\u2019t there?\u00a0 If I asked\u00a0Could, it leaves the decision entirely up to them\u2026it\u2019s about their choice.\u00a0 If I asked\u00a0Would, they can still choose but now I&#8217;ve made it a request \u2013 a little more about what I wanted.\u00a0 In a polite way, it puts a bit more pressure on them to consider the request from my point of view as well as theirs.<\/p>\n<p>Similar logic applies when you are thinking about doing something.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI would\u2026\u201d\u00a0dreams that maybe, at some point in the future, you might complete whatever it is.\u00a0 No commitment, no deadline, and allows for a BUT\u2026 as a way to not do that.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI could\u2026\u201d\u00a0implies more desire, and also allows for a BUT, and that definition of the BUT obstacle allows for a plan of action to overcome it.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI could\u2026\u201d\u00a0subtly has the resolve to do it.<\/p>\n<p>An example is about playing the piano (OK, so you\u2019ve never dreamed of playing the piano, but work with me here).\u00a0 \u201cI would play the piano but I don\u2019t have one\u201d\u2026end of story \u2013 let\u2019s you off the hook.\u00a0 \u201cI could play the piano but I don\u2019t have one\u201d\u2026begs the next question, \u201cso what are you going to do about it\u201d.\u00a0 It leaves you with the demand for an action step to overcome that problem and get it accomplished.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s the point?\u00a0 When you ask yourself if you would do something, think instead if you could do it.\u00a0 Be like the little engine that Could!<\/p>\n<p>For more about The Growth Coach, the #1 Business Coaching Franchise, visit www.TheGrowthCoach.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weeks blog comes to us from guest blogger Gary Hartman.
